DAY 1 -  Put Texas in our rearview mirrors

since we are all pretty excited and looking forward to getting this excursion moving.  Our lunch stop today is going to be a spot that has been featured on the Food Network and Travel Channel The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo. (Insert George Strait’s song here)  I have to say the food is outstanding and should you ever have the opportunity to stop you should do so.  While we were there we had a girl decide to take the “Challenge.”  If you do not know what I am referring to, at the The Big Texan they offer a 72oz. steak for free...  The catch: you must consume the following in ¨one hour

  1. -72oz top sirloin

  2. -baked potato

  3. -salad

  4. - dinner roll

  5. -shrimp cocktail

This girl was a machine!  We couldn’t believe it.  She plowed through the entire meal in 40 MINUTES!!!   WOW!  We walked around the restaurant and took a few pictures and then hopped back on the bikes headed for the TX/NM border.

Sept 18th is the start of this journey.  our first day is going to be a long one.  The goal is to make our way across North TX and end up somewhere in New Mexico.  We head out of McKinney around 5:30am headed due West on 380.  Our first leg should be pretty easy

A quick stop at the NM Visitor Center is in order so folks can pick up the free State map and may be a cup of coffee.  What do we see when we pull into the parking lot?  None other than Herby pulling his very own trailer on a trip around the world...

They had a little map taped to the rear driver side

window tracing out their whole trip showing more

over 50,000 miles.  Looks like Herby is going farther

then just Monte Carlo...  :)  The rest of the day is

spent riding I-40 straight across New Mexico to

Albuquerque where we will spend the night and get ready to ride the Million Dollar highway the next day.
